The railing system that I built for Eagles Nest in Franconia Notch was innovated and forever changed the way railing would be built in large log cabins.
Log cabins are a living and breathing structure, that shrink and expand.
When a green log cabin is built they are prone to shrinkage, resulting in the second story becoming 8 inches (at the minimum) shorter than when it was built.
Pictured here is my railing system that deemed successful during the log cabins second year, thanks to the movable pivots I installed.
The architect, John Ninninger was surprised to see this approach because typically you'd have to rebuild the entire railing once the cabin solidified, this time only the top newel post needed moved.
